Sizing FAQs: How to know your hoodie size

Hoodies: they’re comfortable, they’re warm, they have loads of pocket space, and they’ll make you look fantastic, wherever you’re going! At TOFFS, we’re very proud of our huge range of high-quality retro sports hoodies, which rank among our best-selling casualwear options.

However, if you aren’t a regular clothes shopper - or are looking for a gift for someone else - then you may benefit from some advice on how to know your hoodie size. If you don’t have an eye for clothing sizes and want to know how to pick a product that will give you a comfortable fit every time, then you’ve come to the right place!

Here, the experts at TOFFS have put together a guide on how to know your hoodie size, and the measurements you can take to make sure your retro TOFFS football or rugby hoodie will be snug as well as stylish.

How to find out which hoodie size you need

The best way of finding out what size hoodie you’re shopping for is to take the measurements from a hoodie that already fits you well. In some cases, these measurements will be printed on the product’s label, but in most instances it would be better to measure it yourself using a tape measure.

If you’ve never measured a hoodie before, the process is very simple:

  • Lay the hoodie out on a flat surface and smooth out any wrinkles
  • Record the body length, by measuring from the point where the shoulder seam meets the neck seam down to the bottom hem
  • Record the sleeve length, by measuring from the sleeve all the way up to the shoulder seam
  • Record the pit-to-pit size, by measuring the shirt from armpit to armpit
  • Put the hoodie on and record the chest size, by having someone else wrap the tape measure around the widest part of your chest
  • Compare your measurements to the size chart on TOFFS’ Sizing Guide to find out which product size category would fit you best!

This will give you at least a rough idea of whether you are looking for a small, medium, large or other shirt size, making it easier for you to shop for hoodies and other products online without necessarily needing to try anything on first. This method works equally well if you can get hold of a hoodie belonging to a person you’re currently shopping for!

A few more sizing tips…

In order to make sure that you’re getting the right product size for your preferences, it’s also worth bearing a few more tips in mind:

  • When measuring a garment, make sure you measure it twice and check the two numbers against each other - this will help to avoid any errors!
  • Don’t use the measurements from a T-shirt to size up a hoodie. Different types of garment are fitted differently, and the measurements from a slimmer cut or thinner fabric will not necessarily translate to a hoodie.
  • Not all manufacturers use the exact same size categories for their measurements - so if you’re shopping from TOFFS, make sure to compare your measurements to TOFFS’ Sizing Guide first!
  • Don’t measure a garment that is fresh out of the wash, as many fabrics - including cotton, which is commonly used in TOFFS products - will experience a certain amount of shrinkage straight out of the washing machine.
  • Consider how you’d like the hoodie to fit you - some people prefer a snug form-fitting product, while others will find a looser and baggier style is better for them. Make sure you take this into account when determining which product is right for you!
