John Toshack scored 96 goals in 246 games, he was part of the team that won the Football League Championship in 1973, 1976 and 1977, the FA Cup in 1974, and the UEFA Cup in 1973 and 1976.

Toshack and Keegan struck up an almost telepathic partnership in the early 1970's with Toshack winning everything in the air and Keegan finishing the knock downs. They were a delight for commentators as their names rolled off the tongue easily, one famous piece of commentary by David Coleman went "Toshack, Keegan, one nil!"

Liverpool v Newcastle United 1974 FA Cup Final

As Bill Shankly’s rebuilt side of the 1970’s flourished in the 1972-73 Season, the 1973-74 campaign didn’t quite live up to expectation, with the F.A. Cup becoming the only realistic chance of adding silverware to the trophies won the previous year. But facing Newcastle, they played a team that had never lost a Wembley final, and the stage was set for a keenly–awaited showdown.

With eight of Liverpool’s starting line-up remaining from the side that suffered heart-ache in the extra-time defeat of the1971 final, Bill Shankly’s team were determined to make amends, and with the addition of Kevin Keegan, they started as favourites to lift the Cup.

After a first half of few chances, Liverpool really turned on the style in the second half with a master-class display of total football. Alec Lindsay became the scorer of perhaps the best F.A. Cup goal that never was, before Kevin Keegan opened the scoring, Steve Heighway added number two and then Kevin Keegan scored his second of the game after a move of flowing football with only minutes remaining.

As the triumphant Bill Shankly headed for the Wembley tunnel with a red flag held above his head, the Liverpool fans rightly saluted their great manager. But weeks later he would stun the world of football by announcing his retirement, after clinching his final piece of silverware

Featuring post-match interviews with the players and Bill Shankly, this is a piece of history that must be owned.

Liverpool v Everton 1986 FA Cup Final

Standing on the threshold of a historic League and Cup double, Liverpool arrived at Wembley knowing that victory over their arch rivals in the first all Merseyside FA Cup Final would etch their famous name into the record books.

Under the inspirational guidance of player-manager Kenny Dalglish, the Reds had already overcome their neighbours to capture their sixteenth championship crown a week earlier at Stamford Bridge and now only 90 minutes separated them from greatness.

As Liverpool struggled to settle, Everton struck first through Gary Lineker, and the first half ultimately belonged to the Blues, with Everton making all the right moves and Liverpool failing to make the impression they wanted.

If football is a game of two halves, then it has never been more appropriate, as a resurgent Liverpool, spearheaded by the lethal Ian Rush, put their first half performance behind them to turn the match on its head and score three second half goals.

It was Rush who struck first to draw the match level on 57 minutes when he rounded Bobby Mimms, and with the Reds growing in confidence and Everton still rocking, Craig Johnson found the net from close range and Liverpool were dominating.

The icing on the cake came with only 6 minutes remaining when Ian Rush finished a decisive move that had been crafted by Ronnie Whelan and Jan Molby, and there was no doubt now to which side of Stanley Park the cup was heading.

The red half of Wembley celebrated and the double was complete for only the third time in the century. Now see it all again with the full match in its entirety and post match interviews from the day itself.

Liverpool v Everton 1989 FA Cup Final

Whilst the 1988-89 FA Cup will always be remembered for the tragic events that unfolded at Hillsborough, for the Final itself the script couldn’t have been written any better, as Liverpool faced their arch rivals Everton in an emotionally charged and highly evocative Wembley final, in which Liverpool would eventually win but Merseyside would be united.

Liverpool started brightly, and were ahead after only four minutes, when John Aldridge hit the back from within inches to the penalty spot where he had missed in the previous year’s Final, but this time there was no denying him a Cup Final goal, and it was a goal that appeared to clinch victory after 85 more minutes of enduring football in the sweltering May sunshine failed to produce another goal.

But just as the ribbons were being fastened, Everton’s substitute Stuart McCall popped up at the back post to force extra time. The Blue’s resurgent with their late goal started brightly, but it was Liverpool’s own substitute Ian Rush who proved to the hero of the hour, as he first swivelled and fired an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net, and then after McCall had once again equalised he steered an unstoppable header that was as deft as decisive to make it 3-2 with the second half of extra time still remaining.

But that’s how it remained, and the Reds had fittingly won the cup, providing the best possible tribute to the victims of Hillsborough, on a simply unforgettable afternoon in North London, when both sides of Merseyside played their part in an extraordinary occasion. Now relive this incredible match over again in this specially produced programme, featuring the full uninterrupted 90 minutes and post match reaction as it happened.

Liverpool v Sunderland 1992 FA Cup Final

Reaching their fourth final in seven years, the Reds headed for Wembley eager for Cup success. Finishing the season in sixth, it was remarkably the Club’s lowest position for 27 years, but in Graeme Souness’ first full season in charge, the faithful Kop were not too despondent at the prospect of the FA Cup heading back to Anfield.

Facing second division Sunderland, who had upset the form books in 1973 when they toppled Don Revie’s Leeds United, Liverpool were odds on favourites to clinch the cup for a fantastic fifth time. But a testing first half lay ahead and the scoreline remained deadlocked as the half-time whistle sounded.

However, the second half proved to be a completely different story, and with only two minutes played the break-through came, as Steve McManaman’s cross fell to Michael Thomas who smashed the ball home with clinical aplomb, and maybe just maybe he was forgiven for that injury time goal for Arsenal in 1989 that denied the Reds of yet another league title and domestic double.

One soon became two, and it was the goalscorer who turned provider. Thomas latched onto Saunders’ through ball, rounded the keeper and rolled it into the path of Ian Rush who tucked it past Norman in the Sunderland goal, for his fifth and record breaking FA Cup Final goal.

It was the season that marked the Club’s return to European football for the first time since 1985, and it was business as usual as another piece of silverware headed for the Anfield trophy cabinet. Now relive the full uninterrupted ninety minutes all over again on this specially produced DVD.
