Juventus originally played in pink shirts with a black tie, which only occurred due to the wrong shirts being sent to them, the father of one of the players made the earliest shirts, but continual washing faded the colour so much that in 1903 the club sought to replace them.

Juventus asked one of their team members, Englishman John Savage, if he had any contacts in England who could supply new shirts in a colour that would better withstand the elements. He had a friend who lived in Nottingham, who being a Notts County supporter, shipped out the black and white striped shirts to Turin. Juve have worn the shirts ever since, considering the colours to be aggressive and powerful.

The 1930s proved to be even more fruitful, the club won five consecutive league titles from 1930 through to 1935, most were under coach Carlo Carcano with star players such as Raimundo Orsi, Luigi Bertolini, Giovanni Ferrari and Luis Monti amongst others.

Juventus had a new ground in the form of the Stadio Comunale, though for the rest of the 1930s and the majority of the 1940s they were unable to recapture championship dominance.

In the five years John Charles spent in Turin, Juventus won three championships and two Italian Cups. Charles was Italian Footballer of the Year and played for the Italian League. In 1958 and 1959 he was in the top three in the polls for European Footballer of the Year. He scored an unheard of 108 goals in 155 games for the club.

After four years of unqualified glory, Charles decided the time was coming when he would want to return home so, despite tremendous pressure from Juventus, he signed only a one year extension to his contract and announced that he would return to the Football League.

Juventus travelled to Spain for the final second leg with a single-goal cushion given them by Tardelli. But when Bettega doubled the lead from a seemingly offside position after just seven minutes, they were sitting pretty. Further goals from Irureta and Carlos Ruiz brought consolation to Bilbao, but the cup was off to Italy.

However, Zoff's greatest feat came in the 1982 FIFA World Cup, where he captained Italy to victory in the tournament at the age of 40, making him the oldest ever winner of the World Cup. He followed in the footsteps of compatriot Giampiero Combi (1934) as only the second goalkeeper to captain a World Cup-winning side.
